Award winning farm gives Firestone a thumbs-up

When Firestone agreed to sponsor the farm business of the year category at the recent Food and Farming Industry Awards, it couldn’t have dreamed of a more fitting winner.

EC Drummond (Agriculture) Ltd received the coveted piece of silverware at last month’s ceremony from Firestone’s agricultural product manager Barry Coleman, before revealing their long-term love of the brand’s products.

Farm manager Mike Goodenough said that his tractors were fitted with Firestone, making the farm’s certificate all the more meaningful with the Firestone logo above their name.

He said: “Firestone is our number one choice for a number of reasons, so it was appropriate to see the brand so closely linked with our overall win.

“We have Firestones on our 350bhp tractors and the tyres have lasted extremely well.

“In addition, their performance is excellent. We actually drive the tractors from Herefordshire, to Hampshire and back to Herefordshire four times a year – mostly on dual carriageways - and we have been impressed.”

Mike said that the perennial issue of soil compaction was one which Firestone was also helping to deal with.

“The wear is very good and this in turn means there is less slip. And because there is less slip, there is less soil compaction.”

Judges at the Food and Farming Industry Awards said that EC Drummond epitomised agriculture as a high tech industry.

Operating in over six counties, they commented that the farm had seen dramatic growth in recent years, and fully understood balancing the four main areas of the business with the views of local authorities and residents to not only protect the environment but to be seen to be doing it.

Firestone’s agricultural product manager Barry Coleman said: “It was great to present the award to such an impressive business, which is driven by a team of outstanding professionals.

“After speaking with them, it was even nicer to hear so many compliments about our tyre range, which has played a part in EC Drummond’s ongoing successes.

“The endorsement was a real boost for us and particularly fitting, being as Firestone sponsored the farm business of the year category itself.”
